COURT PLAYING TIME / POSITIONS POLICY

Competitive Teams – 10 Years & Older

Please be aware that, unlike some other clubs, Mascot Netball Club has a strong tradition of an Equal Court Time Policy during normal round games.

During semi-finals, finals and grand finals, court time and positional rotations are at the coach’s discretion.

During Normal Round Games

  • Mascot aims to provide equal court time across the season. This does not necessarily mean every player will receive exactly the same amount of court time in every individual game. Coaches will manage and balance court time as fairly as possible across the season.
  • We may manage positional rotations differently to other clubs. Some clubs may regularly play a player in the same position for an entire game or have players sit off for extended periods. At Mascot, we aim to have all players on court as much as possible while also supporting their development.
  • Playing positions are determined by the coach based on the needs of the team, player development and the coach’s assessment of what will work best for the team. Player or parent preferences may be considered, but they do not determine positions.
  • At training and during matches, players may be asked to experience different positions. This is an important part of player development and allows coaches to rotate players fairly while working within our Equal Court Time Policy.
  • It is common practice, particularly with younger or newly formed teams, for coaches to trial different positions while they assess the strengths and development needs of individual players and the team as a whole.
  • Players and parents are expected to respect and support the coach’s decisions regarding court time, positions and rotations.

Semi-Finals, Finals & Grand Finals

Once a team reaches the semi-finals, finals and grand finals, court time and positional rotations are solely at the coach’s discretion.

Coaches are encouraged to select and manage their strongest available roster with consideration given to a range of factors, including:

  • Commitment and attendance
  • Effort and attitude
  • Performance and development
  • Positions a player is able to play
  • Opposition and positional match-ups
  • Injuries or other circumstances within the team
  • The needs of the team during the particular game

Unless a team has only seven available players, it is not possible for every player to receive exactly the same court time during finals.

Every player has contributed to the team’s journey throughout the season and played a part in earning the opportunity to compete in the finals. Finals are a team effort, and we expect all players to support one another, celebrate each other’s opportunities and give their best effort whenever they are on court.

Our coaches are volunteers who are committed to developing our players and giving their teams the best opportunity to perform. We ask that players and parents trust the coach, respect their decisions and support the team throughout the finals series.
